Výstavu Možnosti studentského života připravila u příležitosti 70. výročí Mezinárodního dne studentstva ve spolupráci s galerii TranzitDisplay Studentská komora Rady vysokých škol.

Výstava si klade za cíl poskytnout jisté podněty k reflexi identity studenta/studentky a jeho/její role ve společnosti.

David Graeber

David Rolfe Graeber (born 12 February 1961) is an American anthropologist and anarchist. On June 15, 2007, Graeber accepted the offer of a lectureship in the anthropology department at Goldsmiths, University of London where he currently holds the title of Reader in Social Anthropology.[1] He was an associate professor of anthropology at Yale University, although Yale controversially declined to rehire him, and his term there ended in June 2007. Graeber has a history of social and political activism, including his role in protests against the World Economic Forum in New York City (2002) and membership in the labor union Industrial Workers of the World.

Richard Dawkins - Boží blud

Zatím poslední kniha britského evolučního biologa R. Dawkinse odmítá náboženský fundamentalismus a kritizuje všechny ostatní, i umírněné podoby náboženství. Považuje je za nebezpečný jev, který omezuje svobodné myšlení lidí. Být o něčem přesvědčen na základě víry je podle Dawkinse v ostrém rozporu s přesvědčením na základě racionálních argumentů. Náboženský dogmatismus pak stojí v jádru dalších problémů – od vyučování zjevných nepravd o původu světa a lidstva až po teroristické útoky. Cílem Dawkinsovy knihy je zvýšit sebevědomí ateistů, jejichž pozice např. v USA je podle autora na úrovni homosexuálů před 50 lety. Dále je kniha určena všem, kteří by chtěli odvrhnout náboženství, ale mají obavy, zda i bez něj je možné žít plnohodnotný, šťastný a mravný život.

Jedno z autentických míst vztahujících se k událostem 17. listopadu 1989 má nečekaně novou tvář. Pamětní deska instalovaná v podloubí na Národní třídě v neděli odpoledne, během posledního dne "velkého listopadového týdne", změnila svoji podobu.

The transformation of the urban landscape within the last decades has increasingly been dominated by the demands of capitalist utilization. Due to the current crisis, however, which goes far beyond a mere crisis of the real estate and financial market, these neoliberal politics and attendant forms of production of space have been subject to a loss of legitimation. For this reason, not only do the dominance and promises of the privatization model, the free market and private property have to be questioned, but also the conventions of the space-producing professions that follow and materialize these policies.

Kupovat více a levněji. Na přání zákazníků odpovídají velké obchodní společnosti dohodami s výrobci ze zemí třetího světa. Severozápadní Indie je tradičním regionem pěstování bavlny. Zdejší rodiny jsou na jejím pěstování a prodeji zcela závislé, a tak se snaží zažehnat jakékoli nebezpečí neúrody hned v zárodku. Věří zejména zahraničním chemikáliím na hubení škůdců. Proto je na svá pole stříkají několikrát častěji, než je doporučováno. Příbalový leták s informacemi varujícími před častým použitím je ale pouze v dánštině - a to i přesto, že tyto druhy pesticidů jsou v zemích Evropské unie zakázány. Ani jejich výrobce, firma Cheminova, je nepoužívá v Dánsku, ale jen v Indii. Následky používání levnějších pesticidů jsou počtem mrtvých srovnatelné s oběťmi leckteré války. Dánské chemické společnosti to však příliš nevadí. Vedení obchodního řetězce nakupujícího v Indii bavlnu je po zhlédnutí dokumentu šokováno, ale nízké ceny jsou jejich hlavní reklamou. Řešení jako by se opět vracelo k zákazníkovu přání. Ten ale většinou netuší, co se opravdu skrývá za prohlášením firmy, že se řídí vysokými etickými, ekologickými a morálními standardy.

Psittaciformes Trying to Change the World A project by Ruth Ewan

Ruth Ewan will present work based on the possibilities of teaching words and phrases to Psittaciformes, an order of birds including parrots, amazons, cockatoos and parakeets, which are capable of mimicking the human voice. A large aviary will be constructed in the gallery from which a selection of birds will be encouraged to repeat slogans and chants from field recordings made during the protests surrounding the G8 summit in Gleneagles in July 2005.
Psittaciformes Trying to Change the World offers up a vision of social reform, through the beak of a mimic.

Ewan's work playfully explores an interest in political idealism and questions ways in which these ideals exist under capitalism. The exhibition at Studio Voltaire will also include newly commissioned work in the form of a series of drawings made by children, derived from images found in the archives of The Socialist Party's headquarters in Clapham High Street. Often acting as modest forms of propaganda, Ewan's projects adopt and manipulate techniques of influence and persuasion in an incongruous attempt to inspire social change. Previous projects include A Colouring Book of People Trying to Stop the War and A Jukebox of People Trying to Change the World, a collection of over 600 leftwing songs.
